i've seen many people have different opinions on these kinds of domains.
some say they are not worth as much as hyphenated domains.
Why is that so?

Well Url's without hyphens do look more professional, hyphens are typically ok in certain contexts but when you start stringing them out with more than three words or three phrases it can get cumbersome.

I wouldn't recommend sex- drinks- or Mac for everyone but they work for me.
