Well Hiya All
Quick question fer ya'll
I've been doing system administration for quite some time and honestly, getting a little on the bored side. I've been considering a move more towards the development side of things (guess I'd say..more on the side of scripting/programming), as I find myself really spending so much time writing and changing the scripts for my own website and for the company logon scripts due to being more interested in this side of it.
So, does anyone have any input on what language(s) to really focus on and possible training? I'd really like to get more into the web development for a new career path.
Thanks All,
Mike W.

Hello there, well my advice is to try java or ruby, if is for web application u can use ruby on rails as well. Now i am learning java at school and seems to be very good, well is the beginning but who knows how it will be in the future.... what do u like to learn? I mean have u at least had a look to see what programms are good for you and for your understanding?

I wouldn't recommend sex- drinks- or Mac for everyone but they work for me.

Thanks for the input Dan!
So for, in regards to understanding the code, I haven't had much of a problem. I've really only dabbled with PHP/MySQL, vbScript, and now kind of playing with PowerShell. Then of course, HTML and CSS
Not sure if you'd consider them all 'programming' or not; however, I've enjoyed working with them all, and they tie in to my sysadmin positions (other than the HTML & CSS). I just want to get out of the sysadmin and move more towards developement.
PowerShell, being the new command shell/scripting language for Microsoft now, and being so tied in to the .NET Framework seems like, even though I'm only using it now for sysadmin, that it might be a decent springboard in to learning other languages as well.

Well, Im glad u do that and the only thing which I can tell u is good luck in your learning and hope u will do more then you do it now. I am focusing only on networking at the moment, the only programming which I am learning at school now is Java which is very good, I start to like it, but I fancy more to know about ruby and other open source programming, I am not such a big microsoft user to be honest with you. Any way good luck and hope to see u soon back....
